Does BrowserShield slow down machines?

No. BrowserShield is a very lightweight extension with no measurable impact on device performance. It does not transmit data in real time, which also means it adds no network overhead.

Are search terms passed to an external service?

For BrowserShield: no. All matching is performed locally on the device using a library that is downloaded and stored on the machine. No search terms are transmitted externally. For NetworkShield and MobileShield in cloud proxy mode: traffic passes through our cloud...
